Brad Butterworth
SCYB All Director
Co-Founder of The Academy
7th and 8th Grade Boys' Teams

Coach Butterworth is kicking off his second year as the Director of All-Net Programs for South Coast Youth Basketball, although his educational and coaching experience has influenced the chapter since 2004. Coach Butterworth has been coaching since 2003 where he started with Dana Hills High School. His commitment to early/youth development and hard work permeated through the Dolphin program resulting in setting records for wins as well as taking home the 1st League Championship in school history.  During the middle of the decade, he took on new challenges in the collegiate world to professionally develop and learn the game in new and challenging environments. His time spent with Western Washington University, Florida State University, Colorado College and Air Force Academy has helped shape and mold the coach he is today.

His two seasons spent in Colorado were invaluable at learning and teaching the Read & React offense and this unique style of play is what identifies and seperates SCYB/The ACADEMY apart from the multitude of clubs in South Orange County. His background in Early Childhood Education allows him to use unique curriculum designs for better player progression and ultimately long term development and success. As he says, “Teaching basketball and teaching math is no difference. There are concrete concepts that have to be understood and mastered with automation before abstract concepts can be understood.”

Currently Brad is the Varsity Asst Coach at Dana Hills High School and is also charged with developing young minds and bodies at the Freshman level for Dolphin future success. Coach Butterworth is married to the formally Jessica Wahl and has three kids Jaide (10), Kai (6) & Braylen (5).

Matt Beeuwsaert
4th & 5th Grade Boys' Teams

Matt Beeuwsaert has been involved in basketball his entire life. He grew up playing high school basketball for Mater Dei where he was CIF 4A Player of the Year as a junior, was selected as a McDonald's, Parade and Scholastic All American as a senior, played collegiately at both Notre Dame and CAL, and had a ten year professional career in Europe. A recent article in the OC Register by Steve Fryer listed Matt as one of the Top 25 O.C. high school players of all time. Since his retirement from his playing days, Matt has worked at helping young players reach their full potential.

Coach Matt offers both private & small group instruction for young players interested in honing their fundamentals and improving their footwork, post moves, offensive moves from the perimeter, shooting, ball handling, and defensive positioning. Besides his training sessions, Coach Matt also offers personalized video editing. Using actual game film, Coach Matt will review your son or daughter's performance in its entirety. With the help of up to date video editing tools, Coach Matt will pull out sequences from the game where your son or daughter has done something right or something wrong on the court. Then with the use of still framing, reverse action, slow motion, line indicators, and voice dubbing, Coach Matt will edit each one of those sequences in detail. Once all the sequences have been edited, they are then burned onto a DVD for your son or daughter's viewing on their own TV. It's an instructional video that includes your child. It allows them to see for themselves if they are making the right decisions on the floor, are in the right position at all times, and if they are actually putting to good use all the skills they have learned over the years.

Lastly, Coach Matt is also a self-published author of a hilarious basketball comic strip book for kids. In his book entitled " I GOT GAME ", the main character Zac Ryan is this goggle-eyed, wristband-wearin', trash-talkin', cocky little kid who's got the " gear " but definitely not the " game ". Zac finds out the hard way that it takes more than an attitude to be successful. This is an unique gift idea for anyone who's ever played the game of basketball. You can view sample strips, check out the characters, and order a copy online at:
